2015-27 – Horticulture Exports Program – Apples and pear export listings 2015

Summary

All relevant orchards, packhouses cold storage and treatment facilities intending to export apples and pears to China, Japan, Taiwan and Thailand in 2016 must submit an ‘Export listing application form’ by Friday 4 September 2015.

Key points

Countries with protocol agreements with Australia have specific requirements for importing Australian apples and pears. Some protocol countries require the department to provide an export list of orchards, packhouses and treatment facilities before those entities are permitted to export.

Orchards, packhouses and treatment facilities that wish to export apples and pears to China, Japan, Taiwan or Thailand must ensure that their applications are submitted by 4 September 2015.

* Only Tasmania is eligible for export to China and Japan (Japan mandatory fumigation of apples only)

** Only Tasmania and Riverland are eligible for export to Taiwan.

Background

The Department of Agriculture can only include an entity as export listed if all protocol requirements are met. Some entities will be audited before approval for export. All costs associated with audit are the responsibility of industry.

For specific market requirements refer to the relevant workplan on the Manual of Importing Country Requirements (MICoR) Plant website.  Workplans and protocols can be found at MICoR. To access these documents, you must be a registered MICoR Plant user. 

Each relevant export entity must submit an application form (attached). Forms must be completed and returned by 4 September 2015 to the peak industry body:

A separate registration process will be shortly conducted for all on-shore cold treatment facilities registering for Thailand.
