2018-15 - Horticulture Exports Program – Export of Strawberries to Thailand

8 May 2018

Purpose

The purpose of this Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to advise industry that applications for accreditation of farms, packhouses and treatment facilities for the export of strawberries to Thailand 2018 are now open.

Summary of changes and key points

Only strawberries produced and prepared at properties located in Tasmania and Western Australia are eligible to apply for accreditation.

  • Farms, packhouses and treatment facilities applying to be accredited for the export of strawberries to Thailand need to complete and email the relevant application form/s attached to Audit Services.
  • Applications are due by the close of business on 23 May 2018.
  • The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources may conduct audits prior to confirming accreditation.
  • Strawberries sourced from Western Australia must be subjected to mandatory methyl bromide fumigation at an accredited treatment facility prior to export. Refer to the relevant protocol on the Manual of Importing Country Requirements (MICoR) Plants website. To view these documents, you must apply for access.

Background

The protocol for exporting strawberries to Thailand mandates that orchards, packhouses and treatment facilities are accredited with the department prior to the beginning of the export season.

Strawberry growers, packhouses and treatment facilities that wish to export to Thailand during the 2018 export season must ensure that their respective applications are submitted before close of business 23 May 2018.  Late submissions will not be accepted.

The department will contact applicants to provide notification of audit dates. Audits will be carried out against the protocol requirements and departmental guidelines. Following completion of audits, the results will be communicated to applicants by the department. Accreditation numbers will be provided to farms, packhouses and treatment facilities.
