2018-49 - Horticulture Exports Program – Suspension lifted on the importation of melons and strawberries from Australia to Kuwait

Purpose

The purpose of this Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to advise industry that the suspension on the export of Australian melons and strawberries to Kuwait, has been lifted.

Summary of changes and key points

  • The Kuwait National Plant Protection Organisation has advised that they have lifted the ban on the importation of all melon varieties and strawberries from Australia effective immediately.
  • The Manual of Importing Country Requirements (MICoR) cases for melons and strawberries have been reinstated.

Background

Kuwait suspended the importation of all melon varieties from Australia in response to an outbreak of Listeria bacteria; and strawberries in response to reported detections of metal contaminants in the fruit.
