Fishery status reports 2026

Fishery status reports 2026 provides an independent evaluation of the biological and economic status of fish stocks managed solely or jointly by the Australian Government.

This 31st edition of the Fishery status reports covers the biological status of 107 stocks across 22 fisheries. The reports summarise the performance of these fisheries against the requirements of fisheries legislation and policy.

The fisheries assessed in the Fishery status reports 2026 generated an estimated gross value of production (GVP) of $399 million in 2024–25, which represents 24% of Australia's estimated total wild-catch fisheries GVP of $1.66 billion.

A detailed description of economic conditions in each fishery is provided in each chapter, with a summary of economic information for all fisheries provided in the Overview chapter and in Appendix A.

The full report can be accessed in the link below.

Stock status dashboard

In support of Fishery status reports 2026, ABARES has published its 2nd iteration of the stock status dashboard. The dashboard allows readers to filter and display stock status data from 1992 to 2025 at different levels including by stock, species group, fishery, year, or whether solely or jointly-managed by the Australian Government.

The PowerBI dashboard may not meet accessibility requirements. For information about the content of this dashboard, contact ABARES.
