Inspector-General of Animal Welfare and Live Animal Exports

The Australian Government made a commitment to strengthen animal welfare and increase accountability and transparency for animal welfare in livestock exports.

The Inspector-General of Live Animal Exports’ role was expanded to include animal welfare-related objectives and functions. This forms the Inspector-General of Animal Welfare and Live Animal Exports (IGAWLAE).

19-2023: Reduced fees for entries subject to AEP verification

Who does this notice affect?

Biosecurity industry participants and accredited persons operating under the department’s approved arrangement class 19.1 non commodity for containerised cargo clearance (NCCC) and approved arrangement class 19.2 automatic entry processing for commodities (AEPCOMM).

What has changed?

Effective 30 January 2023, the $18 approved arrangement fee will no longer be applied to entries referred for AEP verification. These entries will only be subject to the standard document assessment fee ($30 fee per 15 mins).

Who does this notice affect?

This notice is of interest to importers and customs brokers of used vehicles that have been cleaned by an offshore cleaning and pre-inspection provider recognised by the department.

Recognised Offshore Cleaning and Pre-inspection Provider (ROCIP) Scheme

The Recognised Offshore Cleaning and Pre-inspection Provider (ROCIP) Scheme allows used vehicles to be cleaned and pre-inspected by approved offshore cleaning and pre-inspection providers.

Protocol on biosecurity data and information sharing between the Commonwealth, State and Territory biosecurity agencies

The protocol on biosecurity data and information sharing (the Protocol) supports a core commitment of the IGAB to share biosecurity information, data, intelligence and other knowledge necessary for the efficient functioning of the national biosecurity system.

The intent of the Protocol is to encourage a culture of sharing data and information except where there are legal or other significant impediments. Parties are responsible for ensuring that it is lawful to share data and information according to the laws that apply in their jurisdiction.

Who does this notice affect?

Clients in the import and shipping industries—including freight forwarders, importers and customs brokers—associated with importing goods that require BMSB treatment during the BMSB risk season (goods manufactured in or shipped from target risk countries, that have been shipped between 1 September 2022 and 30 April 2023 (inclusive)).
