Venturia paralias for the biological control of Euphorbia paralias

We conducted a risk analysis for the release of the fungus Venturia paralias for the biological control of sea spurge (Euphorbia paralias).

We began this risk analysis in response to an application to release Venturia paralias to control Euphorbia paralias. The application was submitted by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

We conducted the risk analysis in two key steps:

Who does this notice affect?

This notice is for all airlines, freight forwarders, pet transport companies and importers of cats and dogs to Australia. This information supersedes information contained in IAN 105-2020.

What has changed?

The COVID-19 lockdown in Victoria has continued to impact some international passenger flight routes and space availability for companion animals arriving into Melbourne. Incoming cargo flights have continued to carry companion animals and arrive directly into Melbourne.

Who does this notice affect?

All biosecurity industry participants and food importers who have premises that departmental officers may attend (for inspections, audits, surveillance or other purposes).

What has changed?

Biosecurity industry participants and food importers are being requested to notify the department if any of their staff (or visitors to their premises) test positive for COVID-19. The notification point is the department’s agriccc@aff.gov.au inbox.

Who does this notice affect?

Who does this notice affect?

All clients required to use the department’s Biosecurity Import Conditions (BICON) system during this planned maintenance period.

Information

Due to scheduled infrastructure maintenance, BICON users may experience several intermittent outages from 16:00 to 23:59 on Sunday 26 July 2020 (AEST).

Action

Users are advised to frequently save any in-progress permit applications during this maintenance period.
