179-2019 - Commencement of 2019-20 Burnt Pine Longicorn (BPL) flight season measures for vessels

Who does this notice affect?

This notice is of interest to relevant international vessel masters and shipping agents.

What has changed?

The Department of Agriculture (the department) will commence its annual heightened surveillance regime for managing the risks posed by Burnt Pine Longicorn (BPL) beetles on vessels departing from New Zealand from midnight, 24:00 hours (NZST) on 6 November 2019.

Who does this notice affect?

All importers and customs brokers who will be required to lodge imported cargo documentation to the department for biosecurity assessment during this planned outage period.

All shipping agents or operators of maritime conveyances who will be required to report pre-arrival information during this planned outage period.

All clients who will be required to make an online payment during this planned outage period.

Who does this notice affect?

Clients in the import and shipping industries—including freight forwarders, importers and customs brokers—associated with importing goods that require BMSB treatment during the BMSB risk season (goods shipped between 1 September 2019 and 31 May 2020 inclusive).

What has changed?

Following, the identification of significant critical non-compliance the department has suspended Kinetik Cevresagligi Amb. Tar. Muh. Dan. San. Tic. Ltd. Sti. (Kinetik) (AEI: TR4001SB) from the Offshore BMSB Treatment Providers Scheme.

Crayfish plague is an exotic disease and is listed in Australia’s National List of Reportable Diseases of Aquatic Animals. It is a serious disease of freshwater crayfish, and Australian crayfish are highly susceptible. Suspicion of crayfish plague must be reported to state veterinary or fisheries authorities immediately.
