Cats and dogs must undergo a quarantine period in Australia. We provide this service at the Post-Entry Quarantine Facility in Mickleham near Melbourne, Australia.

Fees and charges

We charge fees for use of the post entry quarantine (PEQ) facility in Mickleham, Victoria, when you are importing your cat or dog into Australia. These fees and charges are calculated on a cost recovery basis.

The following table outlines the set fees and charges for cats and dogs completing post entry quarantine. Additional fees may apply if the animal needs extra parasite treatments, veterinary care, an extended stay in quarantine or other services.

Quarantine in Australia

Australia has a highly favourable animal health status. We are free from many cat and dog diseases. To protect our status, cats and dogs must undertake a period of quarantine upon arrival in Australia.

This quarantine period allows us to:

  • assess the required documentation
  • monitor the animal's health for symptoms of disease that may be of biosecurity concern.

Non-regulated analysis of existing policy for table grapes from Sonora, Mexico

​​Import conditions for fresh table grapes (Vitis vinifera and hybrids) for human consumption from Sonora, Mexico have been published on our Biosecurity Import Conditions system (BICON). Import permits will now be issued.

The decision to commence imports will be a commercial decision between an exporter in Sonora, Mexico and an importer in Australia. The importer must meet the import conditions as set out in BICON.

Oriental melon and rockmelon fruit from Korea

We have published import conditions for greenhouse grown fresh oriental melon and rockmelon fruit from the Republic of Korea (Korea) on our Biosecurity Import Conditions system (BICON). Import permits can now be issued.

The decision to commence imports will be a commercial decision between an exporter in Korea and an importer in Australia. The importer must meet the import conditions as set out in BICON.
