In this webinar, David gives an overview of recent biosecurity detections. This work is through the department’s Plant Pathology team. The team provides testing and advice on plant disease risks and how to manage them. This work covers surveillance at the border, and in post-entry quarantine (PEQ) facilities.
In recent years, more and more plant pathogens need screening in high-risk PEQ. Exotic pathogens continue to appear in border interceptions and surveillance. To manage this work and better target testing, the team is using new tools. These include robotics and advanced diagnostic technologies such as high-throughput sequencing, MinION sequencing, and MALDI-ToF mass spectrometry. This supports faster and more accurate results.
