Fish product codes for NEXDOC users

When you are requesting an export permit using the departments Export Documentation System (EXDOC) you will need to include details of your product.

Use our code lists to ensure you are entering the correct:

• product code
• Australian Fish Name.

Product codes are linked to the Australian Harmonised Export Commodity Codes (AHECC) by the Department of Home Affairs, to classify internationally traded goods as they enter and leave the country. AHECCs identify goods that must be accompanied by an export permit before entering the wharf or airport and being cleared for export.

Product descriptions and scientific names listed in these tables are as they appear in:

• EXDOC
• printed on export documentation, including Health Certificates (when applicable).

Code lists are subject to periodic change to make sure the product descriptions and scientific names are consistent with the Australian Fish Names Database.

Processors, exporters and EXDOC users are advised of changes via Industry Advice Notices (IANs), please ensure you check the most recent Australian Fish Names IAN for the most current information.

Addition of product type codes and new cut codes to establishments

If you are the occupier of a registered establishment / holder of an approved arrangement and wish to add a product type code (species) and associated product category / cut-code to the establishments list of approved fish or fish products for export, you can do so by submitting an application to change a commodity, product, operation or function via the Export Service.

Before submitting your application

• See current product type codes for fish.
• If the product type that you are applying for does not appear in the list of product type codes for fish, identify the species you are applying to prepare for export by using the Australian Fish Names Database.
• The Australian Fish Name and scientific name detailed in the database will appear as the product description on your export documents and must match any trade description applied to the product.

Please check Micor to ensure that the markets you intend to access will accept both the species of fish, preservation and preparation, prior to submitting your application.

Information to include in your application

1. The Product Type Code or the Australian Fish Name and scientific name
2. The method of preservation (eg live, chilled, frozen or unrefrigerated)
3. The “cut type” (e.g. whole, gilled and gutted, cutlets or fillets)
4. Any additional information – preparation (eg cooked, dried, hot smoked)
5. The overseas markets you are intending to Export to (e.g. UK, EU, China, etc).

Please note:

• Your application must be submitted by someone listed in management or control of the export registered establishment
• If you are applying for a fish or fish product that will be prepared under an export operation (for example: cooking, drying or canning) that the registered establishment is NOT currently approved for, or if the species is substantially different to those already approved, additional information will be requested and a site audit may be required.

There may be a fee associated with the time taken to review an application that is charged as per the department’s charging guidelines.
