2023-8: 2023-24 Live Animal Export – Export Price Increase

30 June 2023

Species: All

Countries: All

Attention

  • All stakeholders

Purpose

This Export Advisory Notice (EAN) is to notify industry that the prices will increase for the live animal export arrangement as published in the 2022-23 cost recovery implementation statement (CRIS)

Key points

  • It is Australian Government policy to recover the cost of delivering export regulatory services.
  • The 2023-24 live animal export prices are set in legislation and come into effect on 1 July 2023.
  • A summary of the changes to prices is described in Table 1.
  • Live animal export arrangement prices are also described in the cost recovery implementation statement: live animal exports published in March 2023.
  • The 2022-23 CRIS describes our approach to managing cost recovery for live animal exports, including fees and charges, financial performance information and financial forecasts for 2023–24 and forward years.
  • Charging Guidelines have been updated to reflect 2023-24 prices and are available on our website.
  • We will regularly engage with stakeholders on the ongoing streamlining of cost recovery arrangements for export certification.
  • We will undertake annual reviews of the live animal export arrangement. This will ensure expenses are aligned with revenue and identify efficiencies from reforms and government investments as quickly as possible.

Background

  • A stepped return to full cost recovery began in 2021-22 after several years of under‑recovery.
  • A stepped return to full cost-recovery has eased the impact for agriculture and food exporters.
  • The final increase will occur on 1 July 2023. Prices will continue to be reviewed annually and updated where a need is identified and approved by the government.
