The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) has reviewed Australia’s policies for testing tomato and capsicum seed. As a result of this review, Australia’s seed testing policy has been updated by establishing a list of authorised laboratories registered to undertake testing of tomato and capsicum seed for Tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) and Tomato mottle mosaic virus (ToMMV).
From 1 October 2025, laboratories that intend to test tomato and capsicum seed for export to Australia must register to be a department authorised testing laboratory. Laboratories can register by completing a registration form confirming the revised testing requirements can be implemented.
