Teacher resources on biosecurity

Foster biosecurity champions in the classroom.

Introducing biosecurity education to the classroom provides students a valuable opportunity to:

  • learn about Australia's biosecurity system
  • recognise potential biosecurity threats
  • understand the shared responsibility to protect our way of life.

Lesson plans and teacher guides

Our lesson plans are designed to boost biosecurity awareness through engaging activities. These plans focus on the Australian Government’s role in biosecurity. They cover topics relevant to children and their families. Topics include:

  • travelling within Australia and overseas
  • receiving items from overseas through mail or online shopping
  • recognising and reporting unusual finds in their backyard.

Biosecurity awareness campaign poster

Get creative! This hands-on challenge tasks students with creating an educational poster on the importance of biosecurity.

This activity enhances understanding through creative engagement. A marking rubric is also available for teachers.

Biosecurity take home challenge

Students become biosecurity ‘graduates’ by completing the challenge. It encourages students to continue their learning outside the classroom.

They can test their carer’s knowledge by quizzing them on biosecurity trivia. They can also interview them about their experiences with biosecurity.

Junior Biosecurity Officer certificate

Students visually track their learning journey with Frankie, the biosecurity detector dog. They colour a paw print for each activity completed to receive their certificate.
