The Export Meat Industry Advisory Committee (EMIAC) Finance and Staffing Subcommittee (FSSC), formerly known as the AQIS/Industry Task Force, was formed in September 1997 as a result of an agreement between the meat processing industry and the Australian Government as part of the AQIS meat inspection reforms.
The FSSC provides a forum for consultation between the department and industry on the Meat Export Cost Recovery Arrangement. It supports engagement on how regulatory costs are determined, recovered and managed and how these arrangements operate in practice.
The FSSC enables the department and industry to:
- build shared understanding of cost recovery settings and their broader operating context
- review financial performance and key cost drivers over time
- discuss proposed changes to fees, charges and cost recovery policy
- identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, transparency and effectiveness of regulatory services.
In performing its role, the FSSC supports informed discussion of financial, operational and policy considerations associated with the delivery of meat export regulatory services.
Membership
Membership of the subcommittee comprises department staff from appropriate branches and nominated industry representatives from key industry associations. Nominations are considered and approved by the department.
Meetings
The Subcommittee meets regularly in either Canberra or by video conference.
