2017-04 - Australian fish names—recent additions to EXDOC for Rock Lobster species

Date of Issue: 11 April 2017

Date of Effect: 11 April 2017

Purpose

To advise exporters and processing establishments of the:

  • addition of two new product type codes to the department’s export documentation system (EXDOC) to facilitate acceptance of some species by China, and
  • the actions that the department may undertake to facilitate clearance of consignments.

Changes to product type codes

New product type codes have been added to EXDOC and can be used where additional information is required to appear on the associated health certificate for China for rock lobster species.

Actions required by exporters and processing establishments

  • Establishments currently using the product type code listed in Table 1 can continue to do so and may also apply for corresponding new codes to be added against their establishment by e-mailing Dairy Eggs Fish

Further information and action required for shipment clearance issues

The department is aware of the issues facing some exporters exporting seafood to China (see MAA 2015 -13 – China – Eligible species list) and is actively seeking to establish and maintain a regular line of communication with China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) to resolve these issues.

While the main area of concern remains the process for adding species to the list of fish eligible for export from Australia, there are a number of species being denied access due to differences in the scientific names used to identify fish.

In some instances the department can assist by:

  • identifying and adding species names into EXDOC where scientific names match or are sufficiently similar, or
  • adding additional information to existing certification to facilitate a match (i.e. add a family name to the species name).

If exporters experience difficulties with clearance of individual consignments they should contact Dairy Eggs Fish immediately for assistance to facilitate the release of the consignment.
