The Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (the department) has been advised that the Chinese General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) intend to undertake an audit of the Australian hides and skins export industry in 2016. The date for this audit is still to be confirmed, however the department anticipates it may occur midway through this year.

In preparation for this audit, the department is compiling a list of all processing establishments that are currently, or intend to, process hides and/or skins for export to the China. The department has distributed initial correspondence through the Australian Hide, Skin and Leather Exporters Association (AHSLEA) however it also seeks that any relevant processing establishments that are not members of AHSLEA, contact the department at NPG Exports by COB Friday 19 February 2016 with the following information:

  • Establishment name and address (and department establishment number, if applicable)
  • Company contact, including email and phone
  • Species processed and treatments undertaken.

Please use Attachment 1 as a guide.

At this stage, the exact scope and timing of the audit have not been finalised. Information will be provided to AHSLEA and establishments that have registered their interest as it becomes available.
