All shipping agents or operators of maritime conveyances who will be required to report pre-arrival information during this planned maintenance period.

All importers of plants, cats and/or dogs who will be required to use the Post Entry Biosecurity System during this planned maintenance period.

Who does this notice affect?

All persons who currently bring in or import live animals or animal products e.g. meat, into Christmas Island or the Cocos (Keeling) Islands.

What is happening?

To effectively safeguard the biosecurity of the islands, we are considering amending existing measures to manage the biosecurity risk of imported goods to an acceptable level. We also acknowledge the islands’ unique needs and recognise the reliance on imports, particularly food.

Biosecurity Advice 2025-P03: Release of the draft report for the review of biosecurity import requirements for guava fruit from Taiwan

15 July 2025

The draft report proposes that the importation of commercially produced fresh guava fruit (Psidium guajava) to Australia from all commercial production areas of Taiwan can be permitted, subject to a range of biosecurity requirements.

The draft report is being issued for a public consultation period, closing on 13 September 2025.

2025-35: Horticulture – Applications for the export of Tasmanian apples and pears to protocol markets in 2025-26

Purpose

This Industry Advice Notice (IAN) is to advise the Tasmanian apple and pear industry that applications are now open for the accreditation of farms, packhouses and cold stores, and the registration of treatment facilities to export apples and pears to protocol markets for the 2025-2026 season.

Focus on pests sharpened in biosecurity boost

The Department recently added high-tech digital stacking capabilities to its laboratory imaging set-ups, to photograph tiny pests with deeper depth of field than ever before, and without any loss of clarity.
