142-2022: MARS / vessel reporting for embarking and disembarking persons outside 12nm

8 August 2022

Who does this notice affect?

All vessel owners, operators, masters, shipping agents and maritime industry personnel who represent and/or interact with international commercial vessels, including cruise vessels for the purposes of Australian biosecurity clearance.

What has changed?

There have been recent amendments to the pratique framework for vessels.

Commercial vessels are no longer granted pratique at the time of submission of the Pre-Arrival Report (PAR).

High food prices drive export restrictions

High global food prices and uncertainty about future food supplies is driving an increase in the number of countries implementing food export restrictions. This raises global food security concerns.

Tracking Animal Certification for Export (TRACE)

If you are a licenced livestock exporter or export animal reproductive material, you must use Tracking Animal Certification for Export (TRACE) to:

  • draft, submit and vary your Notice of Intention (NOI) application
  • view your export licence (livestock exporters).

We use TRACE to manage and process NOI applications. We also use TRACE to manage regulatory information about livestock export licences, registered establishments and accredited veterinarians.

Exporting to Australia from the Pacific

To successfully export to Australia, you need to understand why biosecurity maters and what you need to do to meet our biosecurity requirements.

Each year around 2.5 million shipping containers arrive in Australia from all over the world. This puts not only our country but the countries we trade with, at risk of incursions from invasive pests and diseases. Some of these pests and diseases can wipe out entire crops, kill animals, destroy the environment and threaten livelihoods.
