Fisheries Officer Exchange Program

The Fisheries Officer Exchange Program supports one or two-way exchanges to enhance regional MCS officer networks and cooperation, and to provide officers a first-hand understanding of another country’s approach to combating IUU fishing.

Interested countries should work with regional counterpart agencies to collaboratively develop exchanges.

Australian Government response to the House of Representatives Standing Committee on the Environment and Energy report: Tackling the feral cat pandemic

Summary

The Australian Government recognises feral cats are a serious vertebrate pest in Australia that have severe to devastating effects on native fauna. The Government has long recognised predation by feral cats as a threat to Australian fauna with a listing as a key threatening process under the Endangered Species Protection Act 1992 and inclusion on the list of Key Threatening Processes of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 at commencement. A statutory Threat Abatement Plan was made with its most recent iteration in 2015.

To support system maintenance, the department’s Seasonal Pest application will be unavailable from 23:30 Friday 18 February to 00:15 Saturday 19 February 2022 (AEDT).

As a result, clients may experience delays in receiving Master Consolidator Declaration and Offshore Treatment Certificate assessment outcomes.

Stakeholders in the import and shipping industries—including Master Consolidators, vessel masters, freight forwarders, treatment providers, Biosecurity Industry Participants, importers, customs brokers, and principal agents—associated with shipping or importing goods that require increased intervention during the 2021-22 BMSB risk season.

The unplanned service disruption to the department’s telephony services has now been resolved and clients can now contact the department via phone.
