93-2021: Import Document Assessment Delays

Who does this notice affect?

All clients who submit documentation to the department for import assessment via the Cargo Online Lodgement System (COLS) or other departmental approved systems.

What has changed?

There are currently delays in industry members receiving their directions. All efforts are being made to manage workloads while also effectively managing biosecurity and imported food risks.

92-2021: Expression of interest: Proof of concept trial of new arrangements for imported cargo

Who does this notice affect?

Importers of goods subject to biosecurity intervention who may be interested in participating in a trial of new supply chain arrangements for imported cargo.

The trial was announced on 20 April 2021 in a joint release by the Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management, David Littleproud, and Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Ben Morton.

Reform of the biosecurity system

Australia is facing significant and evolving threats posed by exotic pests and diseases across multiple import pathways. These pests and diseases could have devastating effects on agricultural industries, the environment, trade and export market access, our economy and our way of life if they were to establish here. At the same time, supply chains are becoming more complex as international trade volumes continue to grow, which places increased pressure on the biosecurity system.
