Starting 1 April 2017, a Plant Health Australia (PHA) levy of 0.1 cent per kilogram will be introduced on avocados. This will be offset by a 0.1 cent per kilogram reduction on the research and development (R&D) component of the avocado levy.
The Department of Agriculture is aware that many levy payers in the community, and their families and businesses, have been threatened or adversely affected by recent cyclones or bushfires.

Emergency response levies are a key element of Australia’s national biosecurity system. They allow industry parties to raise funds to contribute to national cost-shared eradication responses to pest and disease incursions.
Starting 1 July 2015, the overall Honey Levy rate will increase from 2.3c/kg to 4.6c/kg. The change is attributed to the 0.1c/kg increase in PHA levy and 2.9c/kg increase in EPPR levy to ensure biosecurity preparedness for the industry.
Starting 1 July 2015, the overall Banana Levy rate will increase from 1.7c/kg to 2.45c/kg. The change is attributed to the 0.75c/kg EPPR levy increase used to repay the industry share of the cost of responses to the National Banana Freckle Eradication campaign.
Starting 1 July 2016, the overall rate for the pig slaughter levy will be increased from $3.125 per head to $3.425 per head. The $0.30 increase is the final increment in the $0.90 per head marketing levy increase approved by the Prime Minister and the Minister on 24 May 2012.

The department engaged ACIL Allen Consulting and Minter Ellison in June 2016 to conduct consultation with stakeholders and identify opportunities to improve the agricultural levy system.

New levy and charge laws
On 1 January 2025 and 1 July 2025, new levies and export charges laws were introduced.
The Leadership in Agricultural Industries grant program is a competitive grant process. Any questions asked and responded to while the grant is available are documented for reference.
The Leadership in Agricultural Industries Fund was administered by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry to support Australian agricultural industry. The government committed $5 million to the Fund with individual grants ranging between $5,000 and $500,000. Activities funded by the program concluded in 2022.
