Australian Government Apprenticeship Program

About the Program

The Australian Government Apprenticeship Program (AGAP) is a flagship initiative of the Australian Public Service.

It provides individuals from diverse backgrounds including school leavers, recent graduates, and those seeking a career change with a pathway to a rewarding career.

Recruitment for the AGAP is managed by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.

Through the AGAP Program, you’ll gain firsthand experience working within government, explore a variety of roles, and contribute to meaningful projects that make a real impact on the lives of Australians. AGAP is a pathway to professional growth, valuable networking, and the chance to make a genuine difference.

At the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) we work to:

  • Protect Australia’s natural resources
  • Develop strong agricultural industries
  • Deliver policies and programs for a strong economy.

Your Role

The Australian Government Apprenticeship Program AGAP offers a structured 12-month learning and development experience designed to support your professional growth.

During the program, you will:

  • Receive a paid salary at the APS3 classification
  • Gain hands-on experience aligned with our department’s key priorities
  • Collaborate on engaging projects alongside professionals and researchers in your area of interest
  • Advance to the APS4 classification upon successful completion of the program.

As a participant, you will help us achieve our objectives, including:

Biosecurity: Enhancing Australia’s biosecurity system to protect our people, environment, and economy from current and emerging threats.

Resilience and Sustainability: Supporting agriculture, forestry, and fisheries to contribute to a healthy, sustainable, and low-emissions future.

Industry Growth: Helping drive progress toward a $100 billion agriculture, fisheries, and forestry industry by 2030 in a dynamic global market.

Eligibility

  • Be an Australian Citizen
  • Undergo a police check
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Australian Government security clearance
  • Be prepared to study a comprehensive Learning and Development Program.
