The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) participates in the Australian Government Data and Digital Cadet Program, providing an opportunity for university students to start their career in the Australian Public Service (APS) while completing their studies.
The Data and Digital Cadet Program is open to students who have completed at least one year of an undergraduate bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in a data or digital related field. It’s a fantastic opportunity for university students to gain practical experience while continuing their studies.
The program is coordinated by the Australian Public Service Commission (APSC).

About the program
The program can run for up to 3 years. During this time, you will:
- Receive a paid salary
- Complete your studies while building a career within the APS
- Apply your data or digital skills to contribute meaningfully and make a real impact
Throughout the duration of the program, our cadets have the opportunity to work across various digital and data focused business areas within the department.
As a cadet, you will benefit from a generous study allowance to support your university expenses, while working a minimum of 2 days per week with flexible arrangements to accommodate your academic schedule.

Eligibility
- Be an Australian citizen
- Undergo a police check
- Obtain and maintain a valid Australian Government security clearance
- Currently studying an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in a data or digital field
