Check our Biosecurity Import Conditions system (BICON) for biosecurity import conditions.

This includes:

  • liquid coconut milk drinks
  • powdered coconut milk drinks.

Exclusions

  • Coconut water or juice that does not contain coconut milk.
  • Retorted coconut milk used for cooking.
  • Food from New Zealand.

Inspection and testing

This food is classified as a surveillance food.

We refer consignments for inspection at the rate of 5%. During inspection we will conduct a visual and label assessment.

If the milk or dairy content is not declared on the label in an allergy statement or in the ingredients list, we will apply analytical testing to confirm if milk or dairy content is present.

Table 1 shows the test that will be applied and the permitted results.

Table 1, Tests applied and permitted results

Dairy allergen test applied Permitted results
Beta-lactoglobulin Less than 0.1 ppm
Casein (expressed as skim milk powder) Less than 1.0 ppm
Total milk (expressed as a non-fat dried milk) Less than 2.5 ppm

Glossary
