Improving access to imported food safety requirements
From mid-2025 imported food safety requirements will be incorporated into the Biosecurity Import Conditions system (BICON).

Food type
Raw meat and edible offal that is fresh, chilled or frozen:
- beef
- pork
- sheep
- goat

Food from New Zealand.
Inspection and testing
This food is classified as a surveillance food.
We refer consignments of raw meat and edible offal this is fresh, chilled or frozen for residue testing at the rate of 5%. During inspection, we will also conduct a visual and label assessment.
Additional requirements apply to raw beef and beef products.
Table 1 shows the residue test that will be applied and permitted result.
