The Animal Welfare Forum (the Forum) was established in March 2018 as a joint initiative of the Australian government and state and Northern Territory government departments responsible for animal welfare.
The primary purpose of the Forum is to discuss, consult and advise on the reporting of animal welfare incidents by export registered abattoirs.
Membership
The Chair of the Forum is the National Veterinary Technical Manager, Meat Exports Branch, Export and Veterinary Services Division, Department of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry.
Membership includes animal welfare representatives from State and Northern Territory departments including:
- NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development
- QLD Department of Primary Industries
- Victoria’s Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action
- SA Department for Environment and Water
- WA Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development
- Tasmania’s Department of Natural Resources and Environment
- NT Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade
Meetings
Meetings are held twice in a calendar year, one meeting in the first half of the year and another in the second half. Additional meetings may be called as required by the Chair.
