The Department is an active member of the Global Alliance on Food Crime (GAFC), an international coalition committed to preventing, detecting and disrupting food crime. Through information sharing and collaboration, members work together to address threats across global food supply chains.
Food crime poses significant risks to consumers, Australia’s economy and our biosecurity system. Adulterated, contaminated or misrepresented products can introduce pests and diseases that threaten livestock and native wildlife, disrupt trade and livelihoods, and have lasting impacts on Australia’s way of life.
In 2025, the Department assumed the role of GAFC Chair and Secretariat, demonstrating Australia’s strong commitment to protecting consumers, strengthening biosecurity, and maintaining the integrity of its export system.
