The EMIAC Animal welfare sub-committee (AWSC) is a sub-committee of the Export Meat Industry Advisory Committee (EMIAC).
It provides advice on animal welfare matters relevant to the export meat industry such as:
- monitoring and auditing of animal welfare at export registered red meat slaughtering establishments
- various animal welfare issues that confront government and industry
- changes to overseas country requirements on animal welfare at slaughtering establishments
- concerns raised by interested stakeholders
- communication with stakeholders on animal welfare matters
- animal welfare training of personnel at export-registered slaughtering establishments
- new and emerging animal welfare standards
- current issues affecting or likely to affect the welfare of animals at slaughtering establishments
- new research and science on animal welfare at slaughtering establishments
- technological advances or new procedures that might have an impact on animal welfare at slaughtering establishments.
AWSC will develop recommendations and provide draft documents to the EMIAC committee on animal welfare. EMIAC will make the final decision on matters reported by the sub-committee.

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is the chair.
