The Export Wild Game Meat Consultative Committee (EWGMICC) was created in the 2000s as a consultative body between the export wild game meat industry and the Australian Government. EWGMICC still retains the same role today.
EWGMICC's terms of reference are broad but its main function is to consider technical issues affecting the export wild game meat sector. It also provides policy advice on many major issues such as residues, pathogens, international requirements including market access and food safety issues affecting wild game meat.
EWGMICC is not a statutory body, but it has a high profile within the industry. Its prime relationship is with the Department of Agriculture, but it often refers matters to other bodies when required.
Membership
EWGMICC Chair is the Assistant Secretary of the Meat Export Branch.
Membership of EWGMICC consists of the department, representatives from Australian Wild Game Industry Council (AWGIC) and invited members including but not limited to:
- Department of Primary Industries and Regions SA
- PrimeSafe Victoria
- Safe Food Queensland
- Game Management Authority.
Meetings
EWGMICC meets biannually, however extra meetings may be convened when urgent issues need to be discussed.
