Farm Business Resilience Program

Australian farmers and land managers are vital to our economy and way of life, ensuring our food security, driving innovation and sustainable practices; and supporting our rural and regional communities. However, the business of farming is becoming more challenging – as farmers and land managers face significant climate risk, including future droughts.

The Australian Government is working with state and territory governments to support the long term resilience of farm businesses by building knowledge, skills and capability of participants to manage risks, including drought.

Through the Farm Business Resilience program, Australian farmers and land managers will have access to subsidised learning and development opportunities in economic, environmental and social resilience.

Learning and development

This program provides farmers and land managers with practical support, such as to:

  • use best practice drought management and climate adaptation approaches
  • upskill in strategic farm business management, planning and financial literacy
  • use data to understand farm business risks and improve decision making processes
  • learn about diversification and transformational options, new farming practices, systems and markets
  • plan for farm transitions, including succession planning, and learn new ways to manage workplace health and safety, people, time, and wellbeing.

The Program will also offer:

  • opportunities to assess and track business performance, and identify areas to build resilience
  • tailored support to develop or update farm business plans, with access to one-on-one professional advice
  • opportunities to connect with peers to share knowledge and experience, and build strong support networks
  • practical skills and resources to take back to the farm.

Delivery

The Program is available nationwide and delivered through states and territories. Following the successful rollout of Phase 1 (2020-25), the Program has been extended until 2029.
