We are partnering with First Nations peoples to co-create culturally grounded approaches to drought and climate challenges—through economic participation, caring for Country, and strengthening cultural and community connections.
First Nations peoples have cared for land, water, and sea Country for over 65,000 years, including during dry times. Their deep knowledge of land, water, and seasonal cycles, built over thousands of years, can help guide sustainable ways to deal with climate challenges.
Working together will bring shared benefits for agribusinesses, landscapes, and communities, helping everyone build resilience.

Supporting Participation Activities
The Australian Government has committed dedicated funding to activities that seek to improve participation of First Nations peoples in FDF drought and climate resilience activities.
First Nations Market Research
A market research project led by a First Nations organisation will engage with First Nations peoples, communities, and groups to better understand how drought affects them. The project will also find out what these communities see as the most important steps for managing better through a drying and changing climate.
This work matters because it makes sure future work is informed by First Nations voices and real-life experiences.
