Partnering for First Nations Initiatives

We are partnering with First Nations peoples to co-create culturally grounded approaches to drought and climate challenges—through economic participation, caring for Country, and strengthening cultural and community connections.

First Nations peoples have cared for land, water, and sea Country for over 65,000 years, including during dry times. Their deep knowledge of land, water, and seasonal cycles, built over thousands of years, can help guide sustainable ways to deal with climate challenges.

Working together will bring shared benefits for agribusinesses, landscapes, and communities, helping everyone build resilience.

Strengthening Drought Resilience on Country Program

The Australian Government has committed $12 million to the Strengthening Drought Resilience on Country grant program to support place-based, First Nations-led initiatives. Up to six First Nations delivery partners will be selected to work with Mob to design and deliver local projects that help Mob prepare for dry times and the changing climate.

Learn more about opportunities to engage with this program.

First Nations Advisory Group

Established in 2025, the Future Drought Fund (FDF) First Nations Advisory Group will advise on First Nations perspectives on drought and climate resilience in the design and delivery of FDF activities.

Learn more about the role and membership of the First Nations Advisory Group.

Supporting Participation Activities

The Australian Government has committed dedicated funding to activities that seek to improve participation of First Nations peoples in FDF drought and climate resilience activities.

First Nations Market Research

A market research project led by a First Nations organisation will engage with First Nations peoples, communities, and groups to better understand how drought affects them. The project will also find out what these communities see as the most important steps for managing better through a drying and changing climate.

This work matters because it makes sure future work is informed by First Nations voices and real-life experiences.
