User experience (UX) services

The Web User Experience (UX) team is part of the Web, Design and Editing section, Communication and Media Branch.

We are the department’s central team of user experience specialists. We provide UX services for all our websites, to ensure an informed and consistent experience for our users.

Research and analysis

Digital solutions work best when they meet user needs and are informed by data.

We undertake user research and usability analysis for new and existing digital products. We then provide evidence-based recommendations to inform or improve the service.

Website projects

We lead end-to-end website development and redevelopment projects. Our team delivers user research, content strategy, content development, and visual design and functionality. We then work with DSD to build, test and launch the product.

Get us involved in these projects as early as possible. User research can happen before you even know what you want to develop. It will help you set an informed direction.

Content review

Our team includes specialists in content design. We can help you write or edit your web pages to meet best practice in web writing and experience design. This includes how to best use the suite of website styles to communicate with your audience.

We can work on small or large-scale content review. We also develop all new digital stories and campaign landing pages.

Digital design advice

We offer digital brand advice and user interface design services.

Our work ranges from advice on how to apply the department’s digital brand through to design of external-facing digital services.

We’re here to support you to deliver user-friendly digital services.

How to work with us

Talk to us as early as possible. Ideally, we will engage with content owners in the early planning phases of work.

We work with you and your clients to:

  • identify the business and user needs
  • shape a solution that meets these needs
  • deliver the agreed solution.

We're specialists in user research, web design and web content writing. We're here to help!

When to get us involved

Some projects and content activities must always be run through our team.

This includes:

  • contextual usability analysis to support website data or a user research project
  • digital stories and campaign landing pages - we're involved in writing and reviewing these products
  • new websites or redevelopments of existing websites
