Attention
Industry stakeholders, including food importers and brokers responsible for importing consignments of food subject to testing under the Imported Food Control Act 1992.
Purpose
To advise food importers and brokers that the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (the department) has approved Fita Laboratories Pty Ltd (Fita Laboratories) to be an appointed analyst under the Imported Food Control Act 1992 section 34(1).
Key points
Importers and brokers may nominate Fita Laboratories to perform testing under the Imported Food Inspection Scheme (IFIS). Tests this laboratory can perform are listed on the department’s website at Book a laboratory for food testing. Fita Laboratories are based in Salisbury Plain, South Australia.
Background
All food testing under the IFIS must be conducted by an appointed analyst. The food importer must nominate which appointed analyst will conduct the required testing by completing a Laboratory nomination form. All costs related to testing are a commercial arrangement between the importer and the appointed analyst.
Appointed analysts are required to comply with the service requirements of the Conditions of appointment to operate as an appointed analyst.
Each appointed analyst is subject to a suitability review and reassessment of their performance every two years.
