From 1 July 2025, the levy and export charge on honey produced in Australia and sold or exported or used in the production of other goods will change to 5.6 cents per kilogram. The change will increase the biosecurity activity component by 2.7 cents per kilogram and decrease the biosecurity response component by 1.7 cents per kilogram.

GST is not applied to Australian Government levies and export charges.
The Australian Honey Bee Industry Council has requested the change to better align funding for biosecurity programs and repayment of the industry’s contribution to the national biosecurity emergency response to varroa destructor mite, which was underwritten by the Australian Government.
