Apply for alternative payment method for Agaricus mushroom levy

Large producers of Agaricus mushrooms may apply to use the alternative payment method.

If your application is approved, you will be able to pay the levy in equal monthly instalments over the year based on the maximum amount of mushroom spawns you are required to pay levy on in a financial year - which is 370,000 kilograms.

How to apply

To apply, you must reasonably believe that the total amount of mushroom spawn you will produce and purchase in the next financial year will be 370,000 kilograms or more.

In making this decision, we will take into account the total amount of Agaricus mushrooms levy you paid in the previous financial year (if applicable).

You must apply before the end of June, for approval to use the alternative method for the next financial year. To apply for the alternative payment method:

  1. Check if your product meets the threshold limit.
  2. Contact the levies team in your state or territory.
  3. Download the Application for Agaricus mushroom levy alternative payment method form.
  4. Send your completed application to either:

Note: Please do not mark your envelope as ‘private’ or ‘confidential’.

We will assess your application and give you our decision, in writing, within 14 days of receiving the application.

You may contact us to discuss your application, or a decision that was made about your application, and we will help you meet your return and payment obligations.
